Sungard Availability Services recognised by Gartner as a leader in Disaster Recovery as a Service

28th April 2015

This month Gartner launched its first ever Disaster Recovery as a Service (DRaaS) Magic Quadrant Report and we’re pleased to announce that Sungard AS has been positioned in the leaders’ quadrant.

When compiling this quadrant, Gartner evaluated 14 DRaaS providers on their ability to execute on various criteria including product/service, overall viability, sales execution/pricing, market responsiveness/record, marketing execution, customer experience and operations and completeness of vision. Within this leaders’ quadrant Sungard AS is positioned as the best for both completeness of vision and ability to execute.

In an age where All-timeTM availability is no longer a nice to have but an expectation, any amount of downtime could provide costly to businesses large or small. Not every organisation has the means to have traditional recovery infrastructure in place, which has given rise to Disaster Recovery as a Service.

The resilience of an organisation’s IT environment is crucial in ensuring results can be consistently delivered, even at time of test and disaster. Our DRaaS solutions are designed to be flexible enough to work with complex, hybrid IT production and recovery environments, and to scale up and down based on requirements driven by specific business results, addressing a full range of recovery time and recovery point objectives.

We offer a holistic approach to business resilience that continues to change the face of the DRaaS industry, which we believe further enhances our leadership position in the highly complex market for advanced recovery solutions.

For businesses considering adopting DRaaS we have compiled these top four tips:

  1. Understand the business outcomes you want to achieve and what you need to recover = you can then apply the right solution to meet this.
  2. Understand the entirety of the IT environment that feeds your cloud workload by understanding where all of your applications and data are located. How does IT know how to recover a CRM system if they don’t know that it exists?
  3. Tier and prioritise your IT systems, apps and processes.
  4. Ensure your recovery plan is up to date with skilled people delivering the capability. Is this best done in-house or outsourced?

As this service continues to grow and become more important to businesses it’s great that DRaaS is now a mature enough proposition to drive a Gartner Magic Quadrant, and we’re absolutely thrilled that Sungard AS has been recognised as an industry leader in this space.
